Erinvale sits on the lower slopes of the Helderberg, laid out around its golf course with False Bay visible on a clear day — and that position changes what belongs on the glass here more than almost anywhere else we fit.

Afternoon sun off the mountain
The Helderberg throws long afternoon shade over some fairways and none at all over others, so a west-facing lounge on an open stand can run hot well into the evening while the house two doors down barely notices. Sunscreen fabric in the 3–5% openness range is the standard answer on the exposed side — it cuts glare and UV without losing the view you bought the stand for.

Coastal salt air, close by
Somerset West sits inside the Helderberg coast's salt-air band, near enough to False Bay that cheap exterior hardware pits and seizes within a season or two. We specify powder-coated aluminium and sealed cassettes on every external blind, awning and roller shutter we fit here, and we're upfront that even marine-grade hardware wants an occasional fresh-water rinse.

The Cape south-easter
Wind funnelling off the mountain and the Cape south-easter both reach Erinvale with real force in summer. An awning or external blind left extended in that kind of gust doesn't survive it — every exterior system we install here carries a wind sensor that retracts the fabric automatically before the wind arrives.

Cape winter rain and estate finishes
Winter brings genuine Cape rainfall, not the highveld's summer thunderstorms — south-facing and less-ventilated rooms want moisture-tolerant products like aluminium venetians or sealed-finish timber rather than untreated fabric. Erinvale also runs an aesthetic guideline like most golf estates, so we work in neutral, estate-friendly colourways as standard and recommend confirming exact requirements with the estate before anything is ordered.

Honest answers before you commit
Do you fit both the freestanding fairway homes and the smaller units in Erinvale?
Yes — Erinvale's mix of full-title fairway homes and smaller cluster or duet units are all within our service area. The free in-home measure works the same either way, whatever the size of the property.
What's the difference between sunscreen and blockout, and which do I need for a mountain- or fairway-facing room?
Blockout stops light completely — right for bedrooms and media rooms regardless of the view. Sunscreen fabric, usually 3% or 5% openness, cuts glare and UV while keeping the fairway and mountain visible during the day, which is why it's the default for living areas that face either. Many Erinvale homes end up with both on the same window, as a double roller.
Will my blind or awning colours meet the estate's architectural guidelines?
We work in neutral, low-visibility colourways as standard for estate homes, but we're not the estate's architectural committee. Your consultant will help you choose finishes at the free in-home measure, and we recommend confirming the exact requirement with the estate before anything is ordered.
Will an awning or external blind survive the wind out here?
Wind, not rain, is the real risk on this side of the mountain — the south-easter and the mountain's own gusts both hit exposed elevations hard in summer. We fit motorised awnings and external venetians with a wind sensor as standard on exposed walls, so the system retracts itself before a sudden gust can damage it — you don't have to be home to react.
Do you offer child-safe options?
Yes, on every corded or chained product. Cord and chain tensioners are standard on every install, and for nurseries or playrooms we recommend cordless or motorised control — nothing dangling within reach at all.
